* Proteins, Carbs and Fat are in grams. Only if there was a 10 calorie difference, then the difference was listed.
** 4 Calories in protein and carbs, and 9 calories in fat per gram.
You can do the math for yourself, see example to the right.
*** Amounts are from there own labels.
Example:
Premier Protein Bar
Label Stated:
Calories: 290 Grams extended to calories:
Protein: 31 times 4= 124
Carbs: 12 times 4=48
Fat: 8 times 9=72
244
* A difference of 46 calories. This is to much of a difference to brush off as an error margin.
Conclusions reached by adding up all the listed macronutrients, then extending them to calories. After grams are converted to calories, the total was compared to the total calories listed on company's label.
Telling you the truth!!!!

Conclusion:
Pillsbury tastes a lot better, and for the money, is a better buy. Take a quality protein with the Hungry Jack, and you'll have a better meal... Overall I think that Swartz Labs Pancake Mix is crap, and is nothing more than regular pancake mix with cheap protein added.
Don't get confused. Laura's Lean Beef, 4% Fat, is actually 28.6% fat, by calories. As their label claims: 40 of the 140 calories (per serving) come from fat. Now this is lean for a red meat, but it is certainly not 4% fat as there label alludes. Meat's fat content is measured differently then most other foods. READ THE LABELS!
Met-Rx Big 100 Meal replacement Bar (Cookie Dough Flavor)

Carbohydrates 51 Grams or 204 calories; 56.6%

Fat 5 Grams or 45 calories; 12.5%
This information is off of their Cookie Dough Flavor Bar as of Sept. 2005
Their Protein Blend, Metamyosin, is mainly milk protein concentrate, Calcium Sodium Caseinate (another milk protein), whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate, dried egg white and L-Glutamine. Labels are required to list the ingredients in greatest to least as in the amount present. By this statement the main type of protein in this bar is milk protein concentrate. Concentrate proteins still have their fat and sugar molecules attached, so it is not a great source of protein.
Of the 51 grams of carbohydrates, 26 of them are listed as sugars, or almost 30% (28.8) of the total calories are from sugar.
Over half of all the calories are from carbohydrates. The next item listed on their ingredients list, after the protein blend, is Corn syrup, a very cheap sweetener that is not conducive to fat loss, and actually may be conducive to fat gain!
I can not imagine someone eating right, working out hard and doing their cardio, and then eating this bar. I think it is a candy bar with some protein.
Nutrition Bar Comparison and Review. Many more to follow.
Detour Bar One bar
Calories 170
Fat 5 grams 45 calories from fat which is 26.5% fat
Carbohydrates 17 grams 68 calories from carbohydrates which is 40%. Surprisingly on 3 grams of sugar as stated on the label. However this bars has much glycerine, sucralose and maltitol which are sweeteners but not list as sugars.
Protein 15 grams 60 calories from protein which is 35.3% protein. The source is their protein blend which is mainly from a concentrate, which is higher in fat and sugar.
Their slogan is "Tastes like a candy bar, but with protein!" Well that is exactly what it is. A candy bar with some cheap protein added.
American Body Building Steel Bar One Bar
Calories 250
Fat 4 grams 40 calories come from fat which is 16 %.
Carbohydrates 36 grams 144 calories come form carbs and 100 of those calories (25 grams) are sugar, which is 40% of the total calories. This bar also contains high fructose corn syrup as its second ingredient, after their protein blend. "Horrible" Read the 'health effects on the wikipedia page and notice the correlation between obesity and disease with the increase use of high fructose cornsyrup.
Protein 16 grams 64 calories come from protein, which again comes from a protein blend. This blend is mainly calcium Caseinate, a cheap form of protein.
This bar is horrible as far as nutrition goes. However, I did have one a few years back and they tasted pretty good.

Protein 34G 136 calories from protein or 38.8%
The main source of protein is casein's and Caseinate, which are cheap milk proteins. Then comes whey protein concentrates, another cheap form of protein. This shake is sweetened with crystalline fructose, a cheap sweetener and sucralose. However sucralose is the last thing listed on the ingredients so very little is used. The label claims no lactose, however with whey concentrate and casein protein have lactose attached to the protein molecules, so I don't know how they can state this. But I have not tested this to confirm it does or does not have lactose. I am told this shake tastes pretty good, and for the amount of sugar and fat I would bet it does. You are getting more calories from fat than anything, add in the sugar calories, and you might as well eat some chocolate with some cheap protein. It states that this shake is "carb" conscious, but obvious not fat conscious.
I would not use this protein supplement, nor would I sell it.
